If someone thinks that spirit possession is none but a psychological problem, he or she should visit Balaji, Mehandipur in Rajasthan (26.946786,76.794764 on Google Maps) to know the metaphysical things that exists out of gross senses. The tantrik attacks (black magic) are divided in six categories: vashikaran, maran, mohan, stambhan, vidheshan and uchhatan; to different religion their names are different
Place of Balaji (lord Hanuman) is of grace, where He rules with His assistants: Bhairavrajand Pretraj Sarkar. It is said, three statues of them are self made, they came in existence by their own. At the left side of Balaji statue, there is minor hole, from which holy water keeps on coming. Bhairavraj is the ‘general’ in Balaji’s army, also known by the name of ‘Kotwal Kaptan’; and the work of Pretraj Sarkar is to punish evil spirits, keeping them away from the suffering person, and to remove black magic effects from them.
The temple has fixed rules and rituals and no tyrannies of pandits or poojaris; problems there are like, the immense crowd, bone crushing pressure from uneducated to common-sense people, soliciting of sweepers (they don’t clean the temple but ask for prasad and money, most of time, they try to snatch the plate from the hands), beggars, and shopkeepers for irritating by insisting to buy prasad (which comes at fixed rate everywhere) from their shops. Apart from immense grace of the lords, I find the temple has poor management that could be much better.
The rules and rituals of temple:
Balaji loves the person who is vegetarian (excluding garlic and onion, and other tamasic stuff), teetotaller, and lives in mental and physical purity ( and if married, treats other woman like his mother or sister, or treats other man like his father or brother). Balaji likes a person who is Satvik, mentally and physically.
(Queue in temple: only for Balaji people come in queue, long queue indeed, and for juxtaposed Bhairavraj and Pretraj Sarkar there is no need of queue, you can offer prasad in five-ten minutes there.)
Darkhast: It is prasad (current rate Rs. 5), for each Darkhast, you need to buy it and offer to Balaji, Bhairavraj and Pretraj Sarkar. It is of six types: (1) when you reach temple, to tell them that you’ve arrived for their grace, (2) for solving your problem, (3) for approving Arji, (4) for granting a wish (manokamna), (5) for giving you an invisible bodyguard, that will come to you when you will invoke his help in the time of some problem, for example, further spirit or black magic attack, (6) for leaving the temple and reaching home safely.
(Days to go to temple: Tuesday and Saturday are the important days there, however you can go there any day. Only avoid Ekadashi, this day rice aren’t cooked there that is the part of Arji — better to go one day before, as queue to Balaji takes several hours; it took me six and half an hour, 2 at midnight I was in queue and in morning at 8.30, I got darshan.)
Arji: Unlike Darkhast, it is one time. And it is said, its effect remains until 3 years. Its time is 7-12 in morning. It is prasad (current rate Rs.181) that contains 50 gm., clarified butter; 1.250 k.g., laddu for Balaji; 2.500 k.g., boiled ‘sabut uddad ki daal’ for Bhairavraj; and 4.500 k.g., boiled rice for Pretraj Sarkar. Everyone buys from one of hundreds of shops nearby temple, however I doubt about the quality and quantity of prasad — It’s better to weigh everything you buy.
For Arji, you need to take several rounds from the shop you buy Arji and to the temple. In first installment of Arji, the shopkeeper gives you 1.250 k.g., laddu and Darkhast (for approving Arji), take them and come in queue for Balaji, when you exist after ‘darshan’ take Darkhast and rotate anti-clockwise seven times over your head and throw it backward and don’t see it again, save 6 pieces of laddu and rest give either to animals or put them back side of temple where animals could eat them. With these six pieces of laddu return to the shop, the shopkeeper will give you boiled ‘Uddad ke daal’ and ‘rice’, put 2 laddu in each of them and save 2 laddu in your pocket that you need to eat later on. Now come again to temple and offer daal with 2 laddu to Bhairavraj and rice with 2 laddu to Pretraj Sarkar; after offering when you exist rotate them over your head anti-clockwise seven times and throw them for animals to eat — remember you need to carry only 2 laddu which you have saved in your pocket. Having reached the empty bowls to shopkeeper, eat that 2 laddu.
Peshi: It needs no queue. Before and after each ‘aarti’ in morning and evening, people suffering from black-magic or possessed by spirit opt for Peshi; it is a prasad you can buy it in Rs. 2 from any shop, buy it and put this in an envelope (before or at the beginning of aarti) which you will find hanging outside the main gate of temple. A man will come he will empty this out and will take all the Peshi to Balaji, when the aarti is finished, he or some other man will bring those Peshi in a tray at back side of temple (or ask someone where Peshi will be distributed), the suffering person needs to eat two pieces of them.
Aarti: During aarti (in morning and evening) the holy water of Balaji is sprayed by swatting by a man on the nearest possible people, standing outside temple, inside temple and in the queue of holy water. To take holy water, over the face and body is important as it cures and heals the suffering person.
Holy water: After each arti in morning and evening, the holy water is distributed (mixed with ordinary water), for it, you need to come in queue. As the arti starts the queue begins, the queue has bone-crushing pressure, so think about if you could come at the beginning of the queue. This holy water you can carry to home and use it to purify to your mind, body and home.
Other nearby visiting place: Apart from Balaji, Bhairavraj and Pretraj Sarkar, the main temple, on the left side there is Ram-Sita temple, Ram-Sita and Balaji are face to face, if you stand at the main gate of Ram-Sita temple you can see Balaji without any queue. At nearby mountains there are many temples but famous are of Kali ma and Shamshan Bhairav, you can also go to visit there.
The people possessed by spirit: Balaji, Bhairavraj and Pretraj Sarkar take care of them. As the aarti starts the person possessed by spirit starts rotating his or her head to and fro automatically, in all the intensities it can be seen, it may also start another time while offering prasad or eating the prasad of Peshi, it has no fixed rule, the lords there know best, the people surrounding him or her should pray to lords for his or her cure and healing.
Caution: When you leave the place, don’t carry any eatables and drinking water. It is said to all the eatables the spirits of Balaji temple have their rights, you can eat there but can’t carry. After passing 3 k.m., some says 30 k.m., you can buy and carry eatables and drinking water.
Advise: it is better to go in small Bala Ji Temple instead of going in Mehendipur Bala Ji because in small temples you will have a helper (Mahant Ji) while in Mehendipur Bala Ji you are depended only on prayers.
